Marlow Hockey Club beat Wycombe in annual fixture

The annual encounter between Marlow and Wycombe Hockey Clubs for the Croxson Cup took place on Saturday. This fixture has been played since 1974 and involves all available teams  – there were 11 matches in all with about 250 players involved.

Most teams were involved apart from Marlow’s ladies 2s and Wycombe ladies 5s, and Marlow retained the cup but the result could not have been closer!

With only the men’s first team match to be played Marlow were ahead by only one goal with all the scores added up. This resulted in a very competitive match with some excellent hockey being played and the result was in doubt until near the end when Wycombe scored twice to level at 3 all. Goals for Marlow came from-Chris Sewell, Tom Gray and Lewis Goodman and Wycombe’s scorers were Jack Whelan 2 and Jack Simkins. Marlow were happy to have held opponents from two leagues above them.

In the ladies first team match Marlow were favourites being the higher ranking in league terms and won 3-0. Their goals were scored byJen Martin , Nat Riches and Emily Miskell.

It was a wonderful day of hockey much enjoyed by the over 250 players who took part.
