Yesterday, Saturday 11th September, saw the return of Marlow Carnival after an enforced break in 2020. It was great to see so many people enjoying the activities, food, drink and sunshine!
There was music on two different stages, and a display arena – with Marlow FM providing chat and music in between.
This year there was a seperate “Green Village” where groups like Transition Town Marlow, Wild Marlow, Marlow Wombles and more were grouped together, together with Marlow Town Council – it made a great focus for environmental matters.
The Round Table usually have their “duck race” in the May Fayre – but with that being cancelled this year the race took place at the Carnival instead. The sold a record 1,740 tickets, with funds raised going to local good causes.
The winners of the writing competition, judged by two amazing local authors were:
- Under 7’s ELERI WATTS age 6 Rosa’s Adventures ( judged by Julie Hoggan )
- 8 – 14 LIBERTY PAYNE age 10 The Marlow Monster (judged by by Robert Thorogood )
- 15 and over MOLLY HUTCHINSON age 15 Alice Mashed Up Under 7’s ELERI WATTS age 6 Rosa’s Adventures ( judged by Julie Hoggan )
The Carnival team told us that they had an extraordinary amount of entries all of which were superb and showed how creative and articulate Marlow young people are!
Many congratulations to the organisation team of Espen Østbye-Strøm and Jane Douglas (of Jane Douglas Fitness and Dance) for putting on such an enjoyable day, and thanks to all those taking part!
