This week, MyMarlow was invited to preview some exciting changes at Tom Kerridge’s Butchers Tap and Grill.
The first change is the “Counter to Grill” concept, where you simply buy whatever size cut you want of your preferred meat from the butchers counter, then have it cooked for you right there! The other change is Jamie May taking the helm as the Executive Chef and Butcher. Jamie was previously Head Chef at the two-Michelin starred Hand and Flowers – so you can tell they are serious about the cooking side of things.
At the preview event, Tom Kerridge and team talked us through the changes, and the various meats – worth noting this is the very same meat used at Tom’s other Michelin starred restaurants!
Tom said “The Butcher’s Tap And Grill has an incredible chef and butcher at the helm, so it makes sense to evolve the concept to make the most of the butcher’s counter and Jamie’s talent as a chef. We are aiming for a casual, fun and family-friendly counter-to-grill pub where guests can just pop in for a locally brewed pint to watch the footie, or enjoy a hand-cut steak from the counter, perfectly grilled to order”
We were then treated to samples of various items from the menu, and steaks and other meats cooked by Jamie. It was all delicious, and the steaks you might expect were the stars of the show – amazing quality meat, and perfect cooking combined. We think this is a great concept, and very flexible as explained in more detail below.
More about that “Counter To Grill”…
The Butcher’s Tap And Grill will offer a select choice of prime cuts with a focus on steaks from the butcher’s counter that can be cooked to order.
Simply let the team know how hungry you are and they will carve accordingly, then the cut is weighed by the gram and you pay a standard £12.50 Grill Charge for it to be grilled and prepared in the pub for you. The grill charge is per person, and not per item – so the freedom is yours, maybe you want a Rib-eye or a Fillet steak, or how about two Lamb chops and a Bavette steak?
All grilled dishes are served with burnt onion and a watercress and rocket garnish and a choice of Bearnaise, Peppercorn or Truffle Butter.
Then you simply pay for any additional sides, including Loaded Truffle & Parmesan Fries, Loaded Chilli Fries, Onion Rings and Coleslaw.
But you can still grab a burger, hot dog or nibble!
The menu still offers the popular burgers and hot dogs, plus and a range of pub snacks include Fried Mac N Cheese and a Scotch Egg. Starters include a Half Pint of Shell on Prawns , Smoked Salmon and a Terrine – plus desserts of course.
The pub will offer a rotating roster of draught beer, and all wines available by the glass including a sparkling Harrow & Hope NV Brut Reserve from Marlow, and Mondays will offer BYO with a £5 corkage.
