2017 Top 5 Facebook Posts

Time for our traditional review of our Facebook statistics to bring you the posts which got the greatest reactions.  We have excluded posts which were “nice views” of the town for the purposes of this list, focusing on story based posts, and here’s the Top 5:

23 Nov: Russell Brand switches on our lights – most Liked and Shared post!

Russell Brand switched on Marlow’s Christmas lights, with an absolutely packed High Street watching.  There was some controversy over his choice, but his speech was well received, and we thought he did a brilliant job. Our video was shared 587 times, and achieved 3,704 Likes etc and 671 comments! The post reached 139,000 Facebook users, and the video clocked up 67,000 views and was watched a total of 48,500 minutes, which is a staggering 34 days!!

6 Nov: Wimpy closure announced – our most commented on post.

This post reached over 68,000 Facebook users. With 871 comments on our post and a further 523 on the shares… so making 1,394 in total, and our most commented on post ever! However, this was news were were very sad to be breaking, and of course the restaurant closed for good just yesterday – Dec 30th 2017.

26 Mar: Marlow features in “Thunderbirds” ad for Halifax

Marlow featured prominently in a Halifax TV advert featuring the Thunderbirds! It was noted that they drive AWAY from town over the bridge in a probably overweight car, then are suddenly driving past Bills arriving at the bank – but it was all good fun 🙂   The post reached 77,000 Facebook users – with 24,000 video views – thanks to hundreds of Likes and shares.

30 July: The procession of amphibious cars

We grabbed this video by chance, as a procession of amphibious cars drove to Marlow, and entered the Thames at the end of St Peter Street. Some days later they returned, this time with expectant crowds awaiting the spectacle.  The post was seen by 48,000 people – with over 1,000 Likes on our post and all the shares.

24 July:  We announce the Pizza Boat has docked!

This pizza boat caused quite a stir during its visit to Marlow over the summer. We were there on the day it first arrived, and our post was widely shared, and seen by 45,000 Facebook users. As a result, they reported their busiest EVER day, in any location the following day! Ricky Gervais also saw our Tweet on the subject and even popped down as a result (see that post here)  🙂
