Marlow Bridge was closed this morning so that “live ammunition” found in the river could be removed.
An army bomb disposal team arrived , and we spoke to the lead bomb disposal technician, but he couldn’t confirm the exact type of munition found.
An unexploded war time bomb had been suggested, as an early Tweet from close to the action, Marlow Rowing Club confirmed:
17/04/19 0920hrs Marlow Bridge currently shut due to unexploded war time bomb being found in river. Informed by police that will be removed this morning. Does not affect boating or circulation pattern.— MRC Safety Lights (@MRCsafety) April 17, 2019
See the photos below, which show the munitions being carried off the bridge in a red box.
Note, local police requested that we obscure the faces of the Bomb Disposal Team, which we have done just to be safe!
