Marlow Town Council has launched an ambitious new plan to make Marlow the most environmentally sustainable town in the Thames Valley.
Dubbed #sustainablemarlow, the plan includes enhancements to the Council’s environmental policy, which commits the Council to comply with all environmental legislation and to improve its environmental performance on a continual basis. A newly created sustainability vision statement sets out the Council’s broader objectives to make Marlow into an environmental exemplar town, with a series of projects tackling priority issues.
To drive the initiative, the Council has created an Environmental Advisory Group, consisting of members of the Council’s planning, environment and transportation committee and Marlow-based environmental professionals.
Chair of the Environmental Advisory Group and Leader of Marlow Town Council, Jocelyn Towns, said: “As a Council, we have always been committed to protecting the environment. Now we feel it’s time to take our efforts to a new level. By launching #sustainablemarlow, we aim to set our ambitions high and deliver a series of projects that protect the environment, tackle climate change and support local residents and businesses.”
“The first of these projects will be launched in the next few weeks. They include: promoting greener transport, reducing plastic waste, reducing air pollution, creating an environmental performance index and working with local schools and businesses.”
The #sustainablemarlow initiative is part of the Council’s overall mission to make Marlow the most attractive, vibrant and among the most environmentally sustainable small towns in Britain.
