Meals from Marlow fundraiser event raises £102k!

Last night saw a star-studded fundraising event for Meals from Marlow.

The initiative was originally launched in April 2020 to distribute free meals to local healthcare workers, and others in need in the community. Started by by Tom Kerridge, Chris Hughes from Pub in the Park, and Andy Agar, the group has so far delivered 134,000 meals to those in need in Marlow and the surrounding area. In its third year, the team want to continue delivering at least 600 meals every week to those in need. They also want to allocate a proportion of funds raised to support Ukrainian refugees.

To give the fundraising a BIG kick start, there was a fundraising event at the Compleat Angler yesterday, which early figures show raised at least £102,000!! (A fantastic start – but the more money they have, the more they can do – please consider donating here, if you can)

Thanks to the venue being provided at no charge, and chefs, celebs and other volunteers giving their time – it meant every penny of ticket sale proceeds could go direct to Meals from Marlow. In addition the event was a platform for a charity auction, which boosted funds massively.

Chris Hughes hosted the event, and one of his first duties was to introduce Russell Brand who got everyone laughing and set up for the evening with very much Marlow-centric comedy routine.

Cooking duties were shared by an amazing multi-Michelin starred combo of Tom Kerridge and Atul Kochhar, the first time they have combined forces!

Andy Agar spoke about the continuing need for “Meals from Marlow” and Chris introduced the guests to some of the MFM team and volunteer members.

A major part of the evening was a charity auction, with lots up for grabs including all sorts of ultra-VIP events and activities, plus the chance to be Mayor of Marlow for the day. Chris Evans did a superb job of maximising the money raised, really working the room to keep the bids coming in.

Then to round the night off and get everyone of their feet, the guests were treated to a fabulous performance from soul legend Mica Paris, and a DJ set from non other than Judge Jules!

To add a bit more celebrity sparkle to the event, if it was needed, we even spotted actor Andy Serkis as a guest on one of the tables. He was more than happy to chat and let us take a photo – check out that ou in our final roundup of pics:

What an amazing night, but of course it was all about the fundraising, and on that front alone it was a huge success.
