UPDATE 22nd November 2022
Planning permission for a new Wetherspoons pub, has now been APPROVED.
The approval itself contains some conditions, for example
“The use of the premises shall be restricted to the hours of 7am to 12pm
(Midnight) Sundays to Thursdays and 7am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays on
any day of the week.”
“The external seating area, hereby approved, shall be at no time be used as a
seating, amenity or smoking area by the customers of the restaurant/public
house after 11pm on any day of the week.”
It all seems fairly standard stuff, and Wetherspoons now have the permissions in place to proceed with a new pub for Marlow, details of which are reproduced from our previous articles below:
UPDATE first published 18th November 2022
We originally broke the news in September regarding firm plans for a new pub in Marlow. The Wetherspoons chain had submitted detailed plans for a pub on West Street, where M&Co is currently located.
This is just a brief update regarding a change in the proposed name. Original architect’s plans had a frontage using “The Brass Thimble”.
Now a revised plan has been submitted with the name “The Swan Hook”. As you can see comparing the images, there is a change in the style of the frontage too.
It is worth noting there have been a handful of objections submitted against the Planning Application – covering concerns over parking, noise, and loss of an affordable clothing retailer.
That’s all for now – we will keep you updated of course.

Back in March 2022 we confirmed the long held rumours that the Wetherspoons pub chain had acquired a site in Marlow – the building where M&Co clothes shop is situated.
Now things have got a lot more “real”, with a comprehensive planning application submitted for “Change of use from Retail to Public House / Restaurant together with alterations to front and rear elevations, first floor extension and external terrace to rear.”
The application reveals the proposed name to be “The Brass Thimble”, and if given the go ahead will result in a huge new pub in central Marlow. An image from the publicly viewable plans give some idea of the internal size, and sheer volume of seats – plus a small beer garden at the back.
The proposals suggest that the pub would create proximately 50 to 60 full and part time jobs, and “be beneficial to the vitality and viability of the Town Centre and whose customers are likely to undertake linked trips with other services and facilities”
The proposed opening hours are:
Sunday – Thursday: 07:00 – 00:00
Friday – Saturday: 07:00 – 01:00
The planning application refers to the “former M&Co”, although at time of writing the shop is still open of course. It also notes that the existing first floor part of the building occupied by GMTW Architects will remain unaffected.
